Living in London alone can be amazing; there is an endless list of activities, from unique art exhibitions to luxury cinemas, walks in nature, sightseeing - even food shopping can be a thrilling adventure!
It has another side though. The alienating one, the one where you feel alone whilst everything and everyone around you moves faster than you.
Finding a silver lining in this anonymity can be emotionally enervating but it did direct me to my first visit to Addie's Thai seven years ago. My first visit was when I had just moved to the UK on my own, my compass pointing interchangeably between excitement and loneliness, so it is a bittersweet memory when I decided to, for the first time in my life, go out and dine on my own.
I arrived at this humble wooden-tables, wooden-chairs restaurant (starving) at the end of a day spent trying (and failing) to understand the applications of the Navier-Stokes equation. A kind waitress led me to the only free table and I ordered the food she recommended.
Addie's Thai has become one of my favourite restaurants so do visit and make sure you try:
- Thai prawn crackers - spicy appetizer for the food journey ahead
- Addie's Thai platter - luscious selection of thai appetizers
- Tom Yum soup - heartwarming broth lemongrass
- Holy Basil stir fried squid - traditionally etched squid cooked with a zillion spices
- Kaeng Panang curry - rich red curry (my favourite dish)
- Soya noodles - thick rice noodles with a salty soya based sauce
- Special Pad Thai - their unique Pad Thai served with a veil of egg-pancake on top
- Addie's Fried Rice - glistening rice to accompany you on your Thai travels
